synopsis
In 1981, RAI-TV presented six hour-long films based on stories by 19th century horror/fantasy authors from such directors as Giulio Questi (Django, Kill!), Marcello Aliprandi (A Whisper In The Dark), Mario Bava (Black Sabbath) and Giovanna Gagliardo (Street of Mirrors). In this premiere episode written by E.T.A Hoffmann and adapted/directed by Giulio Questi, a man is haunted by memories of his father's murder and a nocturnal visitor who plucks the eyes from sleeping children. Donato Placido and Saverio Vallone star in this "stylish and atmospheric" chiller that features a score by Oscar winner Luis Bacalov.
