synopsis
Universally hailed as the first hip-hop movie, director Charlie Ahearn’s Wild Style captures New York’s hip-hop culture circa 1981 in timeless fashion. The groundbreaking film features a pantheon of prominent figures including Busy Bee Starski, Fab Five Freddy, The Cold Crush Brothers, and one of the godfathers of hip-hop, Grandmaster Flash. Wild Style follows the exploits of maverick tagger Zoro (real life graffiti artist Lee Quinones). Zoro's work attracts the attention of an East Village art fancier (Patti Astor) who commissions him to paint the stage for a giant Rapper’s Convention.
